Outdoor Activities:
Hermann Park is Houston's first public park and provides a beautifully wooded site with picnic areas, running trails, dog walking areas, the Houston Zoological Gardens, a public golf course, and an outdoor theater featuring plays and live music. At the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, visitors can stroll 155 acres of nature sanctuary just 4 miles west of downtown. The Center's walking trails through forest, meadow, and pond habitats offer chances to see frogs, turtles, and other area wildlife. Indoors, find a gift shop, library and Discovery Room which includes aquariums, microscopes and other interactive exhibits. Memorial Park is a sprawling park with miles of walking or jogging. When you are Downtown or in the Theater District, check out the Tranquility Park area, with the Houston skyscrapers as a backdrop. Finally, Sam Houston Park contains seven historic homes and is an island of history in the heart of the modern city that Houston has become.

While staying with us at one of our Houston short term rentals, you'll have access to many of the top sightseeing spots and tourist attractions around town. The Waterwall (aka “Williams Waterwall”) is near the Galleria, and is a very popular city landmark which attracts visitors from near and far. This amazing wall of water which was built in 1985 drops thousands of gallons 64 feet every minute. Many say it's a soothing experience to just be able to stop and enjoy this lovely spot which is also quite popular as a wedding venue.

The Houston Museum District is an association of museums, galleries, and cultural centers all located near to each other in one central location. There are 19 museums in all, and last year over 7 million people came as visitors. Among these museums are the Houston Museum of African American Culture, The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, Rice University Art Gallery, and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

The Houston tunnel system is a network of subterranean pedestrian walkways linking over 90 city blocks of office buildings, banks, hotels, government offices, restaurants, and theaters. It sits 20 feet below street level and is about 7 miles long. Large sections of the tunnel contain gift shops, newsstands, banks, dry cleaners, newsstands, and food courts. These tunnels are heavily used by both office workers and tourists alike.

If you're in need of a nice place to do some jogging or walking near your short term rentals in Houston, right in the middle of the city is the Rice University Trail. Natural dirt, unpaved, this is a three mile loop just near to Hermann Park. You can walk or run here under the live oaks, and it's even well lit for nighttime use. People comment that it's a peaceful and beautiful place to exercise.

Sport for Spectators:
While staying in your furnished apartment in Houston, you may have time to see a sports event, and Houston has a wide range of sports to choose from. Houston's professional sports teams include the Houston Astros baseball team, which is part of Major League Baseball's National League. They play their home games in Minute Maid Park. Football fans have the Houston Texans, an NFL franchise with its home at Reliant Stadium.
